In early 2018, a few residents decided to bring the 100in1Day movement to Burlington.  With support from the City of Burlington Parks and Recreation department, the Burlington Public Library, and the YMCA, word started to spread around the community.

A number of workshops were held throughout the city to tell people about 100in1Day and encourage them to join in.  In total, 33 actions took place across Burlington on June 2, 2018.  Here are some of the highlights:

Aldershot High School 100in1Day Launch

Students from Aldershot High School held an event to launch 100in1Day Burlington.  Student groups created projects that focused on food security.  Check out the photo gallery from the Burlington Post.

Burlington’s First Protected Bike Lane

This intervention demonstrated a simple way to improve the safety of a bike lane on Maple Avenue.  One lane was transformed into a bike lane with some cones, barriers, and a bit of homemade (temporary and biodegradable) paint.

Hopscotch Crosswalks

This intervention connected Downtown Burlington’s two newest public pathways with a game of hopscotch in order to encourage the City of Burlington to create some fun, unique crosswalks at these locations.

Bubbles for Burlington

Nothing is more contagious than the sound of laughter, and bubbles make everyone happy!  This intervention invited people of all ages to join and us fill Burlington’s beautiful lakefront with millions of bubbles, smiles and happy sounds.
